Who It’s For: (Self) Teachers & Helpers at (High) Intermediate to Advanced Proficiency Levels Who Like to Learn from Linear Charts, Line Drawings, & Time Lines                                                                         
Why It’s Useful: “Linguistic lecturers and learners alike are likely to learn language from largely linear layouts and likeable life lines.”  But the “leveled lessons” in these pages elicit more than labor.  Even though their (actual and imagined) “World Events” extend  only from 1908 to 2048, their venerable language (in explanations, exercises, and activities) and visuals (in tables, charts, and illustrations) from the Past merit another look in the Present and the Future.                                                                                                                 
What You’ll Do: 
[1] With Chart 1: the Simple Tenses on page 58, interpret the “Time Diagrams.”  (Note that the vertical line represents “now” [the present moment], while the heavy black boxes on horizontal lines stand for activity or action in a time continuum. Can you improve on the “Explanations” of uses of the Past, Present, and Future Verb-Tense Forms? Can you add Examples (sentences related to “World History”) that are even more illustrative of applicable grammar rules? Can you lengthen the lists of typical “Examples of Time Expressions” for each of the three time fames?”                                                                               
[2]  The illustrated Exercise 1a: Scenario: World Events is key to the progression of (the pedagogy and practice) of the Review Unit.  Attending to its dates, drawings, and incomplete captions, fill in the missing verbs: include negative phrasing for events that didn’t happen in the past, aren’t going on in the present, and/or probably won’t occur in the future.  In Exercise 1b, check (the correctness and truthfulness of) your language by “Talking It Over” at Levels A and/or B.                                               
[3] As suggested above or in better ways, optimize application of Charts 2 (“the Continuous Tenses”), 3 (“Other Past-Verb Forms”), 3b. (“Other Future-Verb Forms”) in the rest of the Unit—along with Exercise 2a + “Putting It Together” / “Writing It Down” Sections 2a, 3a, and 4 in between. Use what you’ve gathered and still want to discover as impetus to continue researching, analyzing, and communicating about the history and inclinations of our ever-changing, uncertain world.
